Mike Madigan was an all-around athlete. He played football and basketball but was a superior athlete in track and field winning 5 first place events in the 1964 TCIL State Meet. He won the 100 yard and 220 yard dashes, anchored the winning sprint relay team and won both the long jump and high jump events. Mike was the top-ranked high school long jumper in the State of Texas in 1964 for both public and private schools. Mike went to SMU on a full track scholarship and immediately displayed his ability by winning the Southwest Conference Broad Jump Championship competition his freshman and sophomore years. Mike presently holds the Jesuit-Sheaner Relays meet record in the long jump, with a distance of 24 feet 5 inches, a mark which no Class 4A or 5A competitor has bettered since 1964. |
