Eric Elkins was one of the nation’s premier high school hurdlers. He
participated in numerous track and field events including: relays,
hurdles, and jumping events and led Jesuit to multiple meet victories
and TCIL State Meet Team Championships. He won the Houston Astrodome
National Indoor High Hurdles event setting a new world record for a high
school athlete in that event. He competed in the high school Golden West
Invitational Track Meet in Sacramento, California where only the best in
the nation competed. Eric was TCIL All-State in football and track, and
was awarded All-American honors in track. A 3-year football and 4-year
track letterman, Eric captained both the varsity track and football
teams as a senior and was offered college athletic scholarships in both
sports. Eric was recruited by more than 25 colleges and universities and
accepted a scholarship to Texas A & M where he played football and ran
track.
Eric still holds the Jesuit High Hurdles record of 13.7 seconds. Eric
was a dedicated physical therapist until his untimely death in 1997.
