DALLAS — Already known as one of the best teams in the state, Ellison track established itself as one of the nation's elite as the Eagles won the 46th annual Jesuit-Sheaner Relays on Saturday at Haggar Stadium.

With world-class senior sprinter Prezel Hardy leading the way with three gold medals — including helping win the 400-meter relay with a time of 40.66 seconds, the fastest in the nation this year — Ellison ran away with the Class 5A team title.

Tallying 111.5 team points, the Eagles edged runner-up finisher Lancaster — the two-time defending Class 4A state champion who moved up to face better competition — who had 85 points, and DeSoto, who took third with 65 points.

Hardy paced the Ellison squad by anchoring the champion 400- and 800-meter relays (1:26.34) as well as winning individual gold in the 100-meter dash (10.45) by beating out teammate Michael Bryan (10.81) by .36 seconds. Among those earning second-place honors were fellow 400 relay runner Larry Brooks, who took silver in the 200-meter dash (22.28) and Silvester Harrison in the 3200-meter run (9:38.06), who also finished sixth in the 1600-meter run.
