Jacques Caldwell
Garland, Sr.
What he did: Caldwell took part
in three victories that propelled Garland to the 5A title Saturday at the
Jesuit-Sheaner Relays.
Caldwell won the 200 (21.63) and ran the first legs on the first-place 4x100
(41.81) and 4x200 (1:28.06).
He said it: "Two of our [4x200] legs had just
finished running the 100, so I knew I had to really run the first leg and give
him a
good little lead so he wouldn't have to work as hard catching everybody."
Did you know? Caldwell has been running track with his
classmates, Jarrett Ben and Alex Williams, since the sixth grade. ...
Caldwell was SportsDay's 2006 area track athlete of the year. ... Caldwell is a
Louisville football signee.

• Argyle senior Garrett Hughey ran a personal-best
49.09 in the 4A 400 at the Jesuit-Sheaner Relays on Saturday.
His time ranks fourth among area leaders.
"I just went out fast and kept it going and finished
strong," Hughey said. "I've been training hard, and I focused on
doing well at this meet."
