Nolan's Andrew Montes won the 3,200 meters and took silver in
the 1,600 in the Class 4A division at the 41st annual
Jesuit-Sheaner Relays on Saturday in Dallas.
Montes finished the 3,200 in nine minutes, 46.41 seconds. He
timed 4:26.59 in the 1,600, behind the 4:24.74 of Kiley
Austin-Young of Blair Academy, N.J.
Montes won the TAPPS Class 6A boys state cross country title
last fall, and hopes to continue his success this spring. This was
the first time he competed in the Jesuit relays.
"I was lucky enough to get invited this year, so I wanted
to go and see what I could do against some of the best runners in
the area," Montes said. "I definitely performed the way
I wanted to. For this time of the year, I think it was pretty
good."
Carroll junior shines
Carroll junior Miranda Walker placed second in the elite girls
1,600 meters at the Jesuit relays, behind Richardson's Jillian
Rosen. Walker clocked 5:04.19 -- an impressive time for this point
in the high school season -- while Rosen won in 4:59.03.
Walker was second in the 2004 UIL Class 5A state 1,600, and won
the state 3,200 title.
