Texas Boy and Kentucky Girl get National Honors

One of the nation's fastest track sprinters ever, DaBryan Blanton from Forney High of Forney, Texashas been named the latest Student Sports National High School Athletes of the Week.

Blanton has been singled out from among a group of 10 regional athletes of the week.

Blanton, who recorded the nation's best time last season in the 100 meters (10.30), ran even faster in the Jesuit-Sheaner Relays at Haggar Stadium in Dallas last Saturday. Blanton won the event in a meet-record 10.26 seconds, the fastest in the nation this season. He out-dueled another of the nation's top sprinters, Jonathan Wade of Evangel Christian (Shreveport, La.), who finished in 10.29. Blanton, a senior who was on the cover of the March edition of Student Sports Magazine, has signed a football letter of intent with
Oklahoma.

The staff of Student Sports selects one boy and one girl for national honors each week based on recommendations from regional editors and state correspondents.
